Urethane Cement Flooring in Castro Valley CA - a floor that takes heat and spills

Commercial kitchen or shop floor peeling and staining under heat and spills? We prep the slab and put down urethane cement built for that work.

Industrial kitchen with a textured blue urethane cement floor beneath stainless steel equipment and stairs.

Urethane cement flooring is a seamless, hard-wearing floor we put down in Castro Valley for commercial kitchens, shops and plants, the rooms where hot water, grease, chemicals and heavy carts wear out an ordinary coating.

Is urethane cement flooring the right floor for your space?

Most calls start with a floor that's losing the fight. A coating peels near the dish area, a shop floor stains and pits where fluids land, or cracks open where carts roll. Urethane cement goes down as a thick layer over prepared concrete with no seams for water and grease to get into, so it suits rooms that get hosed down and run hot.

The price moves with the size of the floor, how much crack repair and old-coating removal the slab needs, the texture of the finish, and whether a sunny area needs a topcoat. The schedule turns on how new the slab is, how long you can close the room and how long the floor has to cure before full use. We look at the slab in person and put the price and the prep in writing.

Three things I ask about before quoting

Urethane cement is a tough floor, but how it's planned depends on your room. These are the questions that change what goes down and when we can start.

How much sun reaches the floor

I ask early how much sunlight lands on the floor from windows, skylights or an open roll-up door, because sunlight changes what has to go on top of urethane cement. It's far better to plan that into the estimate than to add it after the floor has already changed color. The FAQ below explains why.

How new the concrete is

A recently poured slab is still drying and settling, and that decides the earliest day we can start. If your concrete is new, please tell us the pour date when you call so we can plan around it. The FAQ below gives one maker's minimum wait.

How the room runs day to day

I'll ask what the floor sees in a normal shift, such as hot water washdowns, oil, dropped tools or pallet jacks, and how long you can close the room. The first answer shapes the finish we suggest, and the second shapes the schedule, since the floor needs time to cure before it takes full traffic.

    I look over the slab

I check the concrete for cracks, moisture and old coatings, and ask how you use the room, how much sun it gets and how old the slab is. You then get a written estimate with the price and the prep spelled out.

    We prep and install

Once you're ready, our crew preps the slab and puts down the system we agreed on. Please keep staff out of the work area until we tell you the room is ready for people again.

  4. 4

Before we leave, we clean up and walk the finished floor with you. We'll go over when foot traffic, carts and full use can come back, and how to keep the floor clean.

How we install urethane cement flooring

Urethane cement is a floor I recommend for commercial kitchens, shops and plants, the rooms that take heat, spills and hard wear all day. Before I suggest it, I ask how much sunlight reaches the floor and how new the slab is, because both change what goes on and when we can start. If the honest answer is that you need more slab repair first, I'll tell you so.

Not every hard floor needs this system. For an office, showroom or entry that gets foot traffic but no heat or harsh spills, polished concrete flooring or stained concrete flooring usually suits better. When urethane cement is the right floor, most of our time goes into prep, opening up the surface and fixing cracks and old coatings, since prep decides whether the floor holds.

Smooth or textured finish

A smoother finish is easier to clean, and a textured one gives more grip underfoot where floors get wet or greasy. We look at where people walk and what gets spilled there before we suggest a texture.

All at once or in sections

Doing the whole floor at once is usually quickest overall, but it closes the room until the floor cures. If you can't shut down, we can plan the work in sections so part of the space stays open.

Planning a urethane cement floor in Castro Valley

Before we put a date on the calendar, it helps to know who handles permits here. Castro Valley is unincorporated, so building permits go through Alameda County, and you apply on the Alameda County Permit Portal, where you can also submit plans, schedule inspections and check a permit's status. The same goes for jobs in Ashland and San Lorenzo.

If your project needs a permit, I'll say so at the estimate, and we'll file it with the county for you or walk you through it if you'd rather file it yourself. We're based in Castro Valley and work in many of the cities around it, and most urethane cement calls we get come from restaurant kitchens, food prep rooms and working shops with older slabs that have already worn through a coating or two.

Why Castro Valley businesses call us for urethane cement

We've been in business since 2017, nine years of prepping and coating slabs, and I still do every on-site estimate myself. I stay on the job with our crew from the first pass of prep to the final walk-through, so the person who looked at your slab is the one watching the work. We also clean up as we go, because your floor is someone else's property.

California licenses flooring contractors under a flooring classification that covers preparing the surface and putting the floor down, and it's fair to ask every installer you compare about it, along with how many urethane cement floors they've done. We're licensed and insured. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.

If you'd like us to look at your floor, please call (510) 931-7868 or send us the form, and thank you for considering us.

Polished Concrete Flooring

If the room is a showroom, office or entry with no heat or harsh spills, polishing the slab you already have can give a hard, glossy floor without a coating.

Stained Concrete Flooring

When you want color in a front room or customer area that sees foot traffic, staining the concrete adds tone that soaks into the slab instead of forming a coating.

Questions about urethane cement flooring

What is urethane cement flooring?

Urethane cement is a seamless floor built for heavy use, and one maker describes it as made for thermal shock, impact, abrasion and chemical exposure. Thermal shock is a sudden swing between hot and cold, like boiling water hitting a cool floor, which is why it suits commercial kitchens, shops and plants.

How much does urethane cement flooring cost in Castro Valley?

We price each urethane cement floor after seeing it, because the slab sets much of the cost. The size of the room, cracks and moisture to deal with, old coatings to strip, the texture you pick and a topcoat for sunny areas all move the number. I'll come out and give you the price and the prep in writing.

Will urethane cement flooring yellow or fade in the sun?

It can, so a sunny floor needs a UV stable topcoat. One maker says its self-leveling urethane cement isn't UV stable and will discolor unless it's topcoated with a UV stable coating. UV is the part of sunlight that fades color, so if sun reaches your floor, plan and budget for that topcoat from the start.

How soon can I walk on a new urethane cement floor?

For one maker's product at 77°F and 50% relative humidity, light foot traffic can start after 12 hours, light wheel traffic after 24 hours, and full cure takes 7 days. Cooler or damper conditions usually slow that down, so please plan to keep the room out of full use until the full cure is done.

Can urethane cement go over a new concrete slab?

Yes, once the slab has cured long enough, and one maker says new concrete should cure for at least 14 days before its urethane cement goes down. Early movement, shrinkage or cracking in young concrete will show through the finished floor, so please tell us the pour date and we'll plan the start around it.

How do I clean a urethane cement floor?

Clean it often with a neutral pH cleaner, a mild one that's neither acidic nor harsh. One maker says its urethane cement floors are nonporous, so dirt stays on the surface instead of soaking in, and recommends frequent, thorough cleaning. The same maker says walk-off mats inside and outside the doors help the floor last longer.
